Member profile - Youthline

Youthliner’s from across the country participating in activities at the 2012 Youthline National Conference

For over 42 years Youthline has been a first point of contact for young people in New Zealand to access a wide range of youth development and support services. Our kaupapa is our sense of vision, our mission, our values and the fundamental principles of youth development which guide our mahi (work).

These principles recognise that for Youthline to have a lasting positive impact on the lives of young people: they needed to be placed at the heart of the solution as active partners rather than passive recipients of services.

Youthline operates a helpline offering phone, text, email and digital media support. In addition they provide or facilitate access to face-to-face counselling, family support, mentoring, training and personal and leadership development programmes.  Alongside their front-line work they conduct research, inform policy development, run social enterprise projects and partner with schools, community organisations, government and sector agencies.

There are parallels between the challenges young people face in our community to what a youth organisation face and we need an environment where youth development organisations and practices can flourish. So Youthline is pleased to be supporting Ara Taiohi’s vision to connect the sector, raise the standards, champion youth development and promote sustainability.
