EDUC 747 - Leadership in Youth Development is a 30-point Auckland Uni service-learning course embedded in the Campus Connections Aotearoa | Tūhono Aiopīpī Therapeutic Youth Mentoring programme. Offered in Semester Two (July–November), the course runs each Wednesday for 6 hours during the semester. Students enrolled in EDUC 747 work directly with young people who have been alienated from mainstream education and are enrolled in Alternative Education. EDUC 747 students will develop therapeutic communication and leadership skills through one-to-one work with the young people, designing and facilitating pro-social group-based activities, developing individual support plans, and/or coaching undergraduate student youth mentors. A whānau-style lunch is provided to students and youth each week. This course can be taken as part of several Post-graduate Certificates, Diplomas or Masters degrees at the University of Auckland.
