Youth19 Rangatahi Smart Survey

In 2019, researchers from the University of Auckland, Victoria University of Wellington, University of Otago and Auckland University of Technology will carry out a Youth2000 survey in the greater Waikato, Auckland and Northland regions.

Waikato, Auckland and Northland

The Youth19 Rangatahi Smart Survey will build on previous Youth2000 surveys carried out by the Adolescent Health Research Group. Since 1999, over 27,000 young people in New Zealand have taken part and findings have been used widely to inform policy and practice, here and overseas. Youth19 retains core Youth2000 questions while adding a focus on rangatahi wellbeing and offering participants direct access to help options.

The group will soon be contacting a randomly selected list of over 80 schools, seeking consent to survey a random selection of their students during terms 2 and 3, 2019. Over 8000 students will be invited. Each participating school will receive a summary of results from their own school, and broader findings will inform schools, researchers and policymakers about opportunities to support young people.

Youth19 is a scientifically and ethically rigorous survey, funded by the Health Research Council of New Zealand and approved by The University of Auckland Human Participants Ethics Committee.
