The Light Project

The Light Project aims to equip young people, their whanau and youth stakeholders to positively navigate the new porn landscape. We are an Auckland based team of sexual health, public health, communication and education professionals working in this field.

Auckland OpportunitiesOpportunities for youth

The Light Project was established in response to the changing porn landscape for young people - with the majority of youth now consuming porn, often from a young age, and growing evidence suggesting porn is significantly shaping young people’s sexual beliefs, attitudes and behaviours.  Alongside this, the content of mainstream porn has changed with sexual violence depicted in 80% of online content and research indicating potentially harmful sexual and mental health impacts on youth. Porn is an awkward and often silent issue and there is an urgent need for some dialogue in NZ - which is where The Light Project comes in.

The Light Project is currently developing NZ resources and training material to help youth and professionals better navigate this new porn landscape.  As a key part of this, they are reaching out to sexual health and youth organisations such as yours to hear what you think are the issues, identify any resources that could assist your work with youth and any training needs you may have. To best inform this process, they would appreciate it if you or an appropriate person from your team would kindly participate in a very short anonymous survey monkey (2-3 mins) on any issues or concerns you see in this area, as your feedback is important in helping shape our resources and training.
