Ara Taiohi is building amazing relationships across the international youth development community.

In February, Shannan was a member of a New Zealand Delegation that travelled to Japan as part of the Community Core Leaders Development Program. She was part of the Field of Youth team that worked alongside colleagues from Austria, Germany and Japan. "It was wonderful to connect with inspirational and diverse change makers," Shannan reflected.

The reports of the New Zealand Field of Youth team can be found here:

Our EO Anya travelled to Uganda to present at the 9th Commonwealth Youth Minister's Meeting and Stakeholders Meeting that happened just before it.

Here's a video recap from various meetings of the Youth Minister's Meeting - check out Anya at 1:22!
Anya also represented Aotearoa in the launch of the international coalition of youth worker organisations - Commonwealth Alliance of Youth Work Associations.

What we've done:

  • worked closely with the Commonwealth Youth Division with people from Australia, Malta, Zambia, India, Pakistan and Jamaica to establish an international alliance of Youth Worker Associations.
  • Anya chaired a meeting of the steering committee in London in June 2016.
  • part of a consultation on "Optimal Youth Development Ecosystems" along with experts in youth development from around the world.
  • presented at the 2nd Commonwealth Conference on Youth Work in Pretoria, South Africa on "The Long Road to a Professional Association for Youth Workers in Aotearoa".
  • presented at the "Evidencing Outcomes for Young People" conference, convened by the Victoria University of Melbourne, in July 2016. You can check out Ara Taiohi's presentation "Towards the Youth Development Strategy".
