The event will feature youth speakers, interactive stalls from local organisations, live music, and kai - all designed to uplift and amplify young people’s voices and lived experiences. We’re proud to be partnering with organisations including Citizens Advice Bureau, Save the Children and Generation Hope, i.Lead, Endo Warriors, Wellington Access Radio, Wellington Asian Youth Group, Volunteer Wellington, School Strike for Climate. The event will be held on Saturday 23rd May, 9:30am–12:30pm at Chilton St James School. We are aiming to bring together around 80–100 young people from across Hutt Valley and Wellington regions. It’s a youth-led event focused on promoting youth voices, celebrating volunteering, and strengthening multicultural leadership within our community. The programme will include a youth panel discussion, interactive leadership workshops, and a recognition of service ceremony, where youth volunteers will be acknowledged. The Deputy Mayor will also be attending and speaking, which is really exciting and adds to the significance of the event. A key part of the vision for this event is to bring together student leaders from different schools across Lower Hutt to collaborate. The week centers on the creation and performance of an original haka that responds to the Youth Week theme: "Taringa whakarongo! Ki te reo o ngā taiohi – Our voices matter! We deserve to be heard". Throughout the week, participants will: - Collaborate on original kupu and movement that reflect what youth voice means to them. - Engage in sports, shared kai, and a community sausage sizzle at the local skatepark to connect with the wider public. - Perform and film their completed haka to be shared online with whānau and the community, amplifying the strength of youth leadership in the region. The event is planned and delivered by our Emerging Leaders rōpū, ensuring the kaupapa remains genuinely youth-led and grounded in manaakitanga. Previous Next
