My Approach
I have worked in the youth development sector for close to 20 years, with the past three years as a tertiary educator at WelTec. Teaching across youth participation and tikanga Māori within diploma and degree programmes has become a genuine passion of mine. This sits on a foundation of working alongside young people in secondary schools, community and not-for-profit settings, and through innovative community development initiatives, including well-being systems change mahi, mentoring and casework practice.
Over the past five years, I have also been growing my supervision practice, following the completion of a Postgraduate Certificate in Supervision with NMIT.
Having recently begun a Master of Applied Social Work at Massey University, I am enjoying strengthening my practice in youth development and integrating this within social practice education, guided by Mana Taiohi principles. While my current role sits largely within education, it remains important to me to stay connected to practice and to those working alongside young people. I am always open to working alongside youth workers and others who support and walk alongside rangatahi.
