About Me

Hello, Kia ora & Talofa.

I am the founder of Aspire Therapy and have lived in Tauranga, for the past sixteen years. I am originally from the North of England but now consider New Zealand home and celebrated becoming a NZ citizen in 2018. I have met some amazing people and made good friends since settling here.

I have worked in the field of therapy since the 1980’s and have over 30 years of experience working with children, young people, and their families. This includes developing services for children in the U.K. as a strategic lead.

I have experience working in residential services, community services ( NGO's), specialist services ( CAMHS ) and schools.

Building a therapeutic alliance is essential and I specialise in working with children, young people and their families experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties. I have completed specialised training around trauma and adverse events and am an Accredited Practitioner in EMDR. I also work alongside adults.

Equine Assisted Therapy

I am a certified professional in the EAGALA model. (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association). Eagala is an innovative mental health treatment model incorporating horses who are highly attuned and offer an environment for clients to discover their answers within themselves.

I provide therapeutic services on behalf of:

Bay of Plenty Therapy Foundation, Te Taukomai Sexual Harm Support Service, Victim Support (Specialist homicide services), Oranga Tamariki, I am Hope / Gumboot Friday and the Public Health Organisation (PHO). I also accept referrals from private clients.

My Approach

Clinical supervision / professional development

Safe practice and continued professional development are important to me and I strive to ensure that professional standards are met and to ensure I can offer the best service to those I work with. I have trained in the U.K, New Zealand, and Australia.

I provide clinical supervision to practitioners .This includes those who provide specialist services and work in a range of services including NGO’s, Health NZ and those in private practice.

Supervision provides a safe space that is created by a healthy and reciprocal relationship to discuss presenting issues , to  reflect on practice ( including our 'blind spots' ), be vulnerable and provide an opportunity to grow.
