Nicolette Norval

I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Professional Supervisor with extensive experience supporting tamariki, rangatahi, and whānau across Aotearoa. I currently lead the not-for-profit organisation's fee-for-service arm, overseeing the delivery of short-term, structured therapeutic interventions, including individual therapy, family therapy, and parenting support. My background spans clinical practice, supervision, and service leadership, with a strong focus on trauma-informed care, cultural responsiveness, and measurable client outcomes. I work at both the operational and strategic levels, supporting practitioners in delivering high-quality, evidence-based services while maintaining strong alignment with organisational values and best-practice standards. I am committed to developing reflective, competent practitioners and fostering safe, ethical, and effective practice environments.

My Approach

My supervision approach is grounded in reflective practice, clinical accountability, and professional growth. I take an integrative and collaborative stance, drawing on evidence-based frameworks and behavioural therapeutic interventions, while remaining responsive to the unique context of each practitioner and their work. I provide a structured yet supportive space where practitioners can critically reflect on their practice, explore clinical challenges, and strengthen decision-making. This includes a focus on risk management, ethical practice, and the maintenance of clear professional boundaries. Cultural responsiveness is central to my approach. I actively incorporate Te Ao Māori perspectives and support practitioners to work in ways that uphold mana, whanaungatanga, and culturally safe practice. My supervision is outcomes-focused and practical, ensuring that insights gained translate into improved client care, practitioner well-being, and sustainable professional development.
