Phil Trotter

35 years married to Carol and father of four, grandpa of three, family means a lot. Losing a son and a grandson has brought us closer and helped build our strength and our kindness. I love music and sport. 35 years’ experience in paid youth work, a mixture of school-based, community based and faith-based contexts. Mentoring has been a primary focus of my youth work (including starting what became BBBS Christchurch), along with training and supporting volunteers, and personal development.

My Approach

After checking in and asking what is top of mind, I come prepared with a open-ended questions that follow up on the previous session and invite you to: 1.reflect on your mahi (to pause, stand back, debrief and review actions). 2.be self-aware, and to recognise the impact of your mahi (on yourself and on others). 3.maintain healthy boundaries and safe practice. 4. recognise and understand potential risk. 5.learn, and make better decisions. 6.remember your why. As a supervisor I bring excellent listening skills; strengths in strategic thinking, intuition and relationship building; a high regard for the integrity of other cultures, and a genuine interest in and care for others.
