Sebastian Maedler
Kia ora, I am a german who married a kiwi and lives in Ōtautahi. I have have 2 kids, a dog and a cat and I love being outdoors, spending time with my family and playing football. I have worked in youth justice and youth mental health residences, worked in care and protection and foster parent social work, been a social worker in the emergency department and ICU and a multisystemic therapy clinician. I have also been a team leader for a youth day programme, clinical supervisor for the multisystemic therapy team and most recently working in a team lead position for the social work team at Christchurch Public Hospital. I love working with people, families, young people and professionals and really enjoy growing in my practice every day.
My Approach
I have been supervising social work students, youth community support workers, navigators, therapists and team leaders since 2020. The Postgrad certificate in professional supervision has given me additional grounding in various theories and techniques to provide better clinical supervision. I find that I naturally use the 7-eyed model of supervision and the reflective learning cycle in my practice which pairs well with social work however have come across other techniques and theories that I would like to use more of. It is important to me that you as a supervisee feel that your needs are being met by our supervision session and am open to try different theories and models that suit you best. After all supervision is about you, learning something about yourself, your professional practice, the person/group you worked with and having a space to discuss those emotions that come with this challenging type of work.
