PRIVATE EVENT
Our event aims to create a safe and inclusive space for taiohi in Kāpiti to freely express their voices and share how they experience being heard in their communities. Through creative and verbal expression, the event will highlight youth perspectives and ensure their voices are seen and heard by the wider community. The event will include three key activities. First, youth interviews, where taiohi can choose to answer open-ended questions such as “When do you feel most heard?”, “How do you express your voice?”, and “What do you wish people understood about youth?”. With consent, these interviews will be recorded and later shared online as a short montage so their messages can reach a wider audience. Second, a chalkboard expression station, where rangatahi can anonymously write or draw their responses to the same prompts. Participants can choose to have a photo taken with their board, which will be combined into a collage representing collective youth voices. Finally, a free sausage sizzle and music will create a welcoming environment that encourages participation, connection, and community among young people. The event will take place over three days, across Kapiti College, Paraparaumu College, and Ōtaki College.
