< Back Chalk Your Truth Games & Kai Kapiti Youth Support (KYS) Target Age: 13-18 Address: When: 19 May 2026 12:00 pm kahliwaghorn@kys.org.nz PRIVATE EVENT Our event aims to create a safe and inclusive space for taiohi in Kāpiti to freely express their voices and share how they experience being heard in their communities. Through creative and verbal expression, the event will highlight youth perspectives and ensure their voices are seen and heard by the wider community. The event will include three key activities. First, youth interviews, where taiohi can choose to answer open-ended questions such as “When do you feel most heard?”, “How do you express your voice?”, and “What do you wish people understood about youth?”. With consent, these interviews will be recorded and later shared online as a short montage so their messages can reach a wider audience. Second, a chalkboard expression station, where rangatahi can anonymously write or draw their responses to the same prompts. Participants can choose to have a photo taken with their board, which will be combined into a collage representing collective youth voices. Finally, a free sausage sizzle and music will create a welcoming environment that encourages participation, connection, and community among young people. I have gained understandings within a Te Ao Māori world view while working within Kaupapa Māori organisations My success in supporting staff working in our bicultural country (both Maori and Non-Maori staff), helps positive engagements and healthy outcomes for our clients. My experience in supervision and adult training can support staff in Registration requirements (RNs, SWs etc) and exploring competencies necessary for individual disciplines, clinical and professional care, social services, education sectors (ECE to Adult tertiary education), support work and anyone else “working with people”. My Approach I bring a combination of experience working within Mental Health and Addictions, case management, dementia care, gender diversity and the LGBTQ+ community, Domestic Violence, the education sector, family issues and concerns…. as well as, engagement and outcomes, and ethical or challenging issues. This, combined with a willingness to learn and remain open to changing contexts helps me to best engage and support staff and organisations. Through reflection, narratives and strength-based / solutions focused discussions, I facilitate a process to support staff through a collaborative and trusting relationship, to find solutions or outcomes to issues or challenges.
